Why Did YSRCP Postpone Its Farmers’ Protest? A Strategic Move or a Political Necessity?

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has announced the rescheduling of its state-wide farmers’ protest, initially planned for December 11, to December 13. The decision comes in light of the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the MLC by-elections in five districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Party President and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the cadre to remain steadfast in addressing public grievances and exposing the failures of the coalition government. He emphasized the importance of raising voices on critical issues affecting the people, particularly farmers, who continue to face neglect and mounting challenges under the current regime.

Protests on Key Public Issues

As part of its intensified campaign, YSRCP has lined up a series of protests focusing on various public welfare issues:

  1. December 13 – Farmers’ protest to highlight agrarian distress and inadequate support.
  2. December 27 – Protest against the steep rise in electricity tariffs affecting households and industries.
  3. January 3 – Demonstration over pending fee reimbursements, reflecting the plight of students and families burdened by education costs.

YSRCP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to standing by the people and holding the ruling coalition accountable for its failures. The party has urged its cadre at all levels—state, district, and mandal—to actively participate in the protests and amplify the voices of the affected.

Focus on Farmer Welfare

YSRCP has consistently championed the cause of farmers, advocating for Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and relief from middlemen’s exploitation. Through the scheduled protests, the party aims to pressurize the government into addressing long-standing demands and implementing effective policies for the agricultural sector.

Accountability and Governance

Highlighting governance issues, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized the coalition government’s inability to fulfill election promises and its failure to deliver essential services. From education and healthcare to power tariffs and corruption, YSRCP plans to expose the shortcomings of the ruling administration and demand corrective measures.

The series of protests is expected to draw widespread participation from the public, showcasing the growing discontent against the government.
