The opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh has intensified its protest against the coalition government’s policies. Following the success of the farmer’s protest in the past, the party has now taken a stand against the recent hike in electricity charges announced by the government. Protests were held across constituency centers statewide, where people voiced their opposition to the government’s decisions.
The protests led by YSRCP against the power tariff hike were successfully carried out across the state. Major cities like Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Vijayawada, and Anantapur witnessed significant participation, marking the protest as a notable event. People came out in large numbers to demonstrate their disapproval of the government’s anti-people policies.
Kurasala Kannababu’s Statement
Former minister Kurasala Kannababu, while thanking the party workers and the public for their overwhelming support during the protests, criticized the government for burdening the public with an additional Rs. 15,485 crore due to the hike in electricity charges. He called this move a clear example of the coalition government’s anti-people policies.
Termination of Free Power Scheme for Farmers
Kannababu also condemned the government’s decision to distance SCs and STs from the free power scheme for farmers, a scheme that was previously a significant relief for them. He pointed out that this was a clear sign of discrimination against these communities, especially by Chandrababu Naidu’s government. He alleged that the coalition government had betrayed the people by raising electricity charges despite their election promises.
TDP Government’s Mismanagement of Power Companies
Kannababu elaborated on the financial mismanagement during the TDP government, which led to huge losses in the power sector. This has resulted in an unsustainable economic burden, further exacerbating the state’s financial troubles.
Public’s Growing Discontent with the Coalition Government
The protests against the power tariff hike are a testament to the growing dissatisfaction among the public with the coalition government. Kannababu noted that within just six months of the new government, there was a visible wave of discontent. Thousands of people who participated in the protests condemned the government’s decisions and policies that negatively impact the common public.
Free Electricity Scheme and the Farmers’ Welfare
Under the YSRCP government, the free electricity scheme for farmers had served as a great support. In contrast, the coalition government has shown hostility toward farmers, acting as their enemy by increasing the financial burden on them. Kannababu concluded by emphasizing that the people would not forget the harmful and deceptive policies implemented by Chandrababu’s government, especially against the welfare of farmers and the general public.
