50 MLA Seats to be Added in Andhra Pradesh: Green Signal for Constituency Reorganization

A major development is on the horizon for Andhra Pradesh politics. The reorganization of constituencies is confirmed for 2026, increasing the number of assembly seats from 175 to 225.

Clarity from State Reorganization Act
During the 2014 state bifurcation, plans for increasing assembly seats were discussed. However, due to various reasons, the reorganization was delayed. The absence of constituency reorganization has significantly impacted governance and political representation.

Process to Begin in 2026
Following the census and approval of the Women’s Reservation Bill, the reorganization process is expected to commence in the second half of 2026. Each parliamentary constituency may see the addition of two assembly seats.

Benefits of Increased Constituencies
The increase in assembly seats is expected to bring governance closer to the people and provide more opportunities for political aspirants.

Preparedness by the Center
The central government is reportedly ready for the reorganization process. Upon the completion of the census, the groundwork for constituency reorganization will be initiated.
