Amaravati: Harish Kumar Gupta Likely to be Appointed as Andhra Pradesh’s New DGP

Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a major change in its police department, as Harish Kumar Gupta, a 1992 batch IPS officer, is likely to be appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP). He currently serves as the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement.

This move comes as the current DGP, C.H. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, is set to retire on January 31. Sources indicate that Harish Kumar Gupta is the top choice for the post, given his extensive experience and clean track record in law enforcement.

Harish Kumar Gupta is no stranger to challenging roles. Notably, during the 2019 general elections, he was appointed as the DGP by the Election Commission, highlighting his credibility and impartiality. His appointment as the state’s police chief is expected to bring a renewed focus on law and order, especially in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.

As Andhra Pradesh prepares for the crucial elections, having a seasoned officer like Gupta at the helm is seen as a strategic move by the government to ensure smooth functioning and maintain law and order during the election period.

With a strong background in vigilance and enforcement, Gupta’s appointment signals the state’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in governance.
