Anantapur, January 29: “I don’t care about the media. If journalists write allegations against me, I will make them lie on railway tracks,” said TDP MLA Gummanur Jayaram, sparking a major controversy.
While interacting with local journalists in Guntakal, Jayaram issued a stern warning, stating that any false reports against him would have serious consequences. “I have seen and done everything. Go ahead and write whatever you want. If you publish baseless allegations against me, I will make you pay for it,” he said.
Jayaram further lashed out at journalists, saying that some were deliberately spreading negative news about him, accusing him of land encroachments and family dominance in his constituency. He challenged them to prove their claims or face dire consequences.
Strong Condemnation from Journalist Associations
The journalist community has strongly condemned Jayaram’s remarks.
- “Trying to intimidate the media in a democracy is unacceptable. MLA Jayaram must issue an unconditional apology immediately,” demanded journalist associations.
- “If there are any factual errors in news reports, legal action should be taken. Threatening journalists is not the right approach,” said media representatives.
- Journalist groups are now calling for the TDP leadership to clarify their stance on this issue and take action against the MLA. Reports suggest that protests may soon be organized against Jayaram’s remarks.
