Anakapalli: Ever since the coalition government came to power in Andhra Pradesh, crimes against women and children have been increasing. In Home Minister V. Anita’s own district, Anakapalli, over 20 POCSO cases have been reported in the last eight months. This alarming situation raises serious questions about the government’s ability to maintain law and order.
What’s Happening in Anakapalli?
- Elamanchili Mandal: Three cases of sexual assault against children were reported in the last two to three weeks.
- Rolugunta Mandal, JC Agraharam: A disabled girl was assaulted.
- Rambilli: A minor girl was murdered.
- Anakapalli & Narsipatnam: One POCSO case each, adding to the growing list of crimes.
Where Is the Safety Net?
As a woman Home Minister, V. Anita has failed to provide safety for women and children, even in her own district. If safety cannot be ensured here, how can the rest of the state feel secure?
Diluting the Disha Law
Under the previous government, strong steps were taken to protect women:
- Disha Law & Disha Police Stations: Quick response to crimes.
- Disha App: Emergency help for women at their fingertips.
- Fast-Track Courts: Speedy trials and strict punishments.
These measures made a difference. Crimes dropped, and criminals were afraid.
But now?
- Disha Police Stations have been shut down.
- The Disha App has been neglected.
- Fast-track courts are barely functioning.
Criminals are getting bolder, and women are feeling less safe.
What Needs to Change?
Women’s groups are demanding action:
- Bring back the Disha App.
- Reopen Disha Police Stations.
- Revive fast-track courts to punish offenders quickly.
If these changes aren’t made soon, the government risks failing the people it’s supposed to protect.
