Amaravati:
Former Minister Ambati Rambabu has strongly criticized Andhra Pradesh DGP Harish Kumar Gupta for his handling of law enforcement, accusing him of misusing the police force for political vendettas. Speaking to the media on Thursday outside the Mangalagiri DGP office, Rambabu alleged that the police are being used as pawns by the ruling alliance, undermining the integrity of the law.
Vallabhaneni Vamsi’s Arrest: Political Pressure at Play?
The arrest of former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi has ignited controversy. According to Ambati Rambabu, the complaint filed against Vamsi in the TDP office attack case was fraudulent.
- Complainant Satyavardhan, who initially accused Vamsi, later testified before a magistrate that he was coerced into signing a false statement.
- Satyavardhan’s brother, allegedly influenced by TDP leaders Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh, lodged a counter-complaint, claiming Vamsi kidnapped and threatened him.
- Within hours, the police arrested Vamsi in a move seen as politically motivated.
Rambabu questioned the urgency of the arrest, especially when the FIR was not even uploaded online. He accused the police of colluding with TDP leaders to target Vamsi, who had switched from TDP to YSRCP.
False Cases Against Abbaya Chowdary
Former Denduluru MLA Abbaya Chowdary also became a victim of alleged political targeting.
- During a wedding event, TDP MLA Chintamaneni reportedly hurled abuses at Chowdary’s driver.
- However, the next day, Chintamaneni filed a police complaint against Chowdary, leading to a case being registered against him.
Ambati Rambabu slammed the police for blindly following TDP’s directives and registering cases without proper investigation.
DGP’s Disrespectful Conduct Sparks Outrage
A delegation of YSRCP leaders, including former Chief Whip Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, MLCs Lella Appi Reddy and Mondithoka Arun Kumar, and former MLA Malladi Vishnu, sought an appointment with the DGP to submit a representation regarding these arrests.
- Despite scheduling a meeting at 4:30 PM, the DGP allegedly left the office without meeting them.
- Even subordinate officers refused to accept their petition.
Ambati Rambabu condemned this as an insult to public representatives and warned that such behavior would not stand legal scrutiny.
YSRCP’s Demands:
- Vamsi must be presented before a magistrate within 24 hours to ensure legal procedures are followed.
- Immediate action against false cases filed against Abbaya Chowdary.
- Strict action against police misuse for political vendettas.
The controversy surrounding these arrests has raised concerns about the independence of the police force under the current administration.
