Andhra Pradesh Women at Risk: Is the TDP Government Failing to Ensure Their Safety?

Amaravati: The brutal acid attack on a young woman in the Annamayya district has triggered widespread outrage in Andhra Pradesh, raising serious concerns about women’s safety under the TDP-led government. Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly criticized the ruling party, accusing it of failing to protect women and dismantling key safety initiatives.

Rising Crimes Against Women Under TDP?

The 22-year-old acid attack victim suffered severe injuries, sparking demands for stricter action against perpetrators. But this incident is not an isolated case. Jagan highlighted a recent case in Guntur where a 25-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted, stating:

🗣 “Atrocities against women and children have increased drastically within just four months of this new government.”

He blamed the TDP administration for failing to create a safe environment for women and weakening crucial safety measures introduced by his government.

Disha App Controversy: Has TDP Weakened Women’s Protection?

One of the major concerns raised by Jagan is the alleged neglect of the Disha app, a key women’s safety initiative launched under the YSRCP regime. He claimed that the app has become “defunct” under TDP rule, stripping women of a vital emergency response tool.

However, TDP’s Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha dismissed these allegations, stating that the Disha Act was ineffective even under YSRCP’s tenure and claiming that crime rates were higher during Jagan’s rule.

Disturbing Crime Statistics in Andhra Pradesh

Despite the TDP’s defense, crime statistics tell a different story. YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani pointed out that even the Home Minister admitted that 49 crimes against women occur daily in Andhra Pradesh, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Pawan Kalyan vs. TDP on Women’s Safety

The debate has also caused friction within the ruling coalition. Jana Sena Party (JSP) Chief Pawan Kalyan, a key TDP ally, publicly criticized Home Minister Anitha over the rising crimes against women. In a surprising statement, he even suggested:

🗣 “If this situation continues, I may have to take over as Home Minister myself to ensure law and order.”

This internal dissatisfaction within the ruling alliance further raises questions about the TDP’s commitment to women’s safety.

Will the TDP Government Take Action?

As political leaders continue to trade accusations, the women of Andhra Pradesh remain vulnerable to increasing crimes. Public outrage is growing, demanding stronger safety measures and stricter enforcement of laws.

👉 Will the TDP government take concrete steps to protect women?
👉 Or will political inaction continue to put their safety at risk?

The coming months will reveal whether Andhra Pradesh can truly become a safe place for women or if political negligence will continue to dominate governance.
