Statewide Condemnation Over Attacks on Journalists

Journalists from print and electronic media have strongly condemned the increasing attacks on media personnel across the state. The recent assault on Prajasakti journalist Rama Rao in Parvathipuram Manyam district’s Makkuva mandal has sparked outrage.

On Monday, working journalists and video journalists from Nandyal district submitted a petition to Additional SP Yugandhar Babu, demanding immediate action against those responsible for the attack. They urged the police to ensure the safety of journalists and prevent such incidents in the future.

The Assault on Journalist Rama Rao

According to reports, Rama Rao was targeted for reporting on local issues and exposing corruption. Allegedly, Makkuva mandal TDP president Venu Gopal Naidu called the journalist and physically assaulted him, warning him against publishing further reports. He even issued death threats, stating that any negative news about him would have serious consequences.

Journalists are demanding the immediate arrest of Venu Gopal Naidu and the registration of a case against him. They expressed concern over the growing threats and violence against media personnel, stating that it is a direct attack on press freedom.

Contradictions in TDP’s Stance on Press Freedom

The journalists pointed out the contradiction in Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s statements and the actions of his party leaders. While Naidu assures media protection and a free reporting environment, local TDP leaders and MLAs are allegedly intimidating and threatening journalists.

Call for a Journalist Protection Committee

Journalists have demanded the formation of a special committee to monitor and prevent attacks on media professionals. They insist that authorities take strict measures to ensure journalists can report fearlessly and independently.

Petition Submitted to Additional SP

A delegation of journalists, including representatives from Prajasakti, Sakshi TV, Maha TV, 10 TV, I News, Zee News, and various other media houses, met with Additional SP Yugandhar Babu and urged him to take immediate action.

This incident has once again highlighted the risks journalists face while carrying out their duty to report the truth. Media organizations are now calling for stronger protections and stricter actions against those who attempt to suppress press freedom.
