A shocking incident took place in front of the Nellimarla Tahsildar office in Vizianagaram district, where a distressed farmer attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. The farmer alleged that a Village Revenue Officer (VRO) demanded a bribe of ₹3 lakh for issuing a Pattadar passbook. Unable to bear the financial burden and bureaucratic corruption, he tried to take his own life.
VRO Refused to Issue Pattadar Passbook Without Bribe, Says Farmer
The victim, a farmer from Nellimarla, had been struggling to get his Pattadar passbook for his agricultural land. Despite multiple requests, the VRO allegedly refused to issue the document unless a bribe of ₹3 lakh was paid. Feeling helpless and frustrated, the farmer decided to end his life right outside the Tahsildar office. However, bystanders intervened and rushed him to the hospital.

The incident has sparked outrage among the local farming community and residents. Many allege that corruption in land record offices has been a persistent issue, making it difficult for small farmers to claim their rightful documents. Farmers’ associations are demanding strict action against the officials involved and urging the government to take immediate steps to curb such corrupt practices.
