- Fear of Being Questioned About Government Failures
- We Will Hold the Government Accountable for Public Issues
- Denying Opposition Status to YSRCP is Undemocratic: YSRCP Leaders Outside Assembly
YSRCP leaders strongly criticized the alliance government, alleging that it is working towards eliminating any opposition voice in the Assembly. After boycotting the Governor’s address, YSRCP leaders addressed the media outside the Assembly, condemning the government’s undemocratic approach. They asserted that the government is afraid of being held accountable for its failures, which is why it is denying YSRCP the status of the official opposition.
We Will Take the Fight to the Public: Botsa Satyanarayana, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council
“The state must protect democracy. The opposition is the voice of the people, highlighting their struggles and questioning the government. However, the alliance government is behaving unilaterally, refusing to grant YSRCP the status of the opposition. We raised this issue in the Governor’s address, demanding recognition as the opposition.
We also questioned the hardships faced by chili farmers. It was only after YS Jagan visited Guntur Mirchi Yard that the government started considering their plight. Even now, they have not initiated purchases. The government claims the Centre will respond, but why isn’t it purchasing chilies through Markfed?
We need opposition status so that we get sufficient time to speak in the Assembly. When our leader visited chili farmers, he was booked in cases, but no action was taken against those who attended musical nights with grandeur. To hold the government accountable, we will take this fight to the grassroots level and expose its failures. The state’s farmers, unemployed youth, and various sections of society are suffering. The government must announce a minimum support price for chili farmers and take responsibility for direct procurement instead of waiting for the Centre.”
AP is Under Taliban-Style Rule: Punganur MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy
“The alliance government is deliberately spreading false propaganda against YSRCP. It keeps blaming the previous government while failing to outline its own plans for the people. YS Jagan must be given an opportunity to speak as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.
We have also approached the courts regarding this issue and requested the Governor’s intervention. In every state, the PAC Chairman post is given to the opposition. Even in YSRCP’s tenure, we followed this tradition, granting the post to the opposition. Even when Congress had just one MLA, the PAC Chairman position was given to them. However, in AP, the TDP-led government wants to function without an opposition, similar to the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, where only the ruling party operates.”
Banning Media Channels is a Blatant Abuse of Power: MLA Tadipatri Chandrasekhar
“Banning four major media houses without prior notice is an extreme example of the alliance government’s authoritarian rule. The government is scared that these media channels will expose its failures. There are numerous issues in the state, and the alliance government has abandoned governance altogether.
Democracy survives only when both the ruling party and the opposition exist. How can the government suppress voices speaking for farmers and the poor? The Governor must take immediate action to uphold democratic values. The government is deliberately silencing the opposition to continue its unchecked corruption. Is the alliance government so weak that it cannot face even eleven opposition MLAs? They are afraid that YSRCP will expose their failures in the Assembly.
With 41% of the vote share, YSRCP represents a significant section of the electorate. Denying us opposition status and taking over the PAC Chairman post is undemocratic. No other state in the country has such an authoritarian approach.”
AP is the Only State Without an Opposition: MLC Varudu Kalyani
“The alliance government is running a dictatorial regime. In the Assembly, there are only ruling party members, while YSRCP is the sole opposition party. Why is the government refusing to acknowledge our opposition status? There is no state in India without an opposition, except for Andhra Pradesh. Even in Delhi, when BJP had just three MLAs, they were granted opposition status.
People who voted for this government are already regretting it. The unemployed, women, students, and farmers feel betrayed. The ‘Super Six’ promises remain unfulfilled, while power tariffs have been hiked by ₹15,000 crores. Registration charges have been increased, and farmers are not getting fair prices for their produce.
Inflation has surged by 60%, yet the government refuses to answer these critical questions in the Assembly. The court case on opposition status remains unanswered by the Speaker. The TDP, which is now part of the Centre, is silent on Andhra Pradesh’s special status.
Pawan Kalyan called for an ‘Appu Ratna’ award for YSRCP’s borrowing during its tenure. Now, within just nine months, CM Chandrababu Naidu has borrowed ₹1.19 lakh crore. What title does Pawan Kalyan suggest for him?”
