Before the elections, TDP leaders promised women free, unrestricted bus travel across Andhra Pradesh. However, nearly a year later, the promise remains unfulfilled.
In states like Telangana, Punjab, and Delhi, free bus travel for women has been successfully implemented. But in Andhra Pradesh, the scheme has not even begun. Even before its rollout, the government has imposed restrictions. What was initially promised as statewide free travel is now limited to district boundaries.
This change has left working women, students, and daily commuters frustrated. If restrictions are already in place before the scheme launches, what further limitations will follow? Given the current trends, it is unclear how much women will actually benefit from this initiative.
Will the government honor its commitment, or will more barriers emerge? For now, we can only wait and see.
