The Universal Postal Union (UPU) is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year with the theme “150 years of enabling communication and empowering people across nations.” DSVR Murthy, Postmaster General of the Vijayawada Region, announced the detailed program for World Post Day and Postal Week celebrations, which will take place from October 7 to 11.
Speaking to the media at the Gandhinagar post office, Murthy noted that India Post has renamed the Vijayawada Head Post Office. This year’s World Post Day honors the UPU’s significant achievements and reinforces its ongoing commitment to serving people for generations to come.
World Post Day is celebrated annually on October 9, marking the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. The UPU Congress declared it World Post Day in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969. Many postal departments around the world use this occasion to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
India Post continues to evolve by upgrading its technological capabilities to better meet customer needs, playing a crucial role in infrastructure development through Innovation, Integration, and Inclusion. During Postal Week, various events will be held, including Mails and Parcels Day, Philately Day, World Post Day, Antyodaya Diwas, and Vittiya Sakshaktikaran Diwas (Financial Empowerment Day).
Additionally, a special event called ‘India Post Run’ will take place in Guntur on October 13 to promote health awareness among the public and the India Post family. Union Minister Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar will present prizes to the winners.
