Chandrababu Naidu Advocates Larger Families for Local Body Poll Candidates

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has proposed a policy allowing only individuals with more than two children to contest in local body elections. Speaking in Naravaripalle, he suggested reversing the previous rule that barred candidates with more than two children.

Naidu emphasized the declining fertility rate as a major concern and said this move aims to encourage larger families. He criticized the growing preference for smaller families and “double income, no kids” lifestyles, warning of long-term demographic challenges.

The CM highlighted how global trends have shown the adverse effects of reduced population growth and stressed the need for timely decisions to prevent similar outcomes in India.

This proposal has sparked debates, with some supporting its focus on population growth while others question its alignment with sustainable development goals.
