The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has strongly opposed the privatization of medical colleges, stating that it would harm poor students who rely on government institutions for affordable education.
Speaking to the media, former MLA Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy criticized Chandrababu Naidu’s plan to hand over new medical colleges to private entities under the PPP model. He asserted that the YSRCP would challenge this move at all levels.
Highlighting YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s efforts, the party noted that 17 new government medical colleges were sanctioned during his tenure, with five already operational. In contrast, Chandrababu Naidu failed to establish even one government medical college during his nearly 15-year term, favoring private entities instead.
Privatization would result in the loss of over 2,400 government medical seats, forcing students to seek education in neighboring states or abroad. Establishing government colleges requires just 2% of the budget, but the current government lacks the political will, said Gopireddy.
The YSRCP pledged to fight against privatization to protect poor students’ futures and ensure better healthcare infrastructure for the state.
