New Delhi: During the Lok Sabha debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy strongly criticized the government’s policies on key issues, including the reduction of Polavaram Project capacity, the rollback of English medium education in government schools, and the Margadarsi scam.
Opposition to Reduction in Polavaram Project Capacity
Mithun Reddy strongly opposed the reduction of the Polavaram Project’s capacity from 194 TMC to 115 TMC, calling it a grave injustice to farmers and the state. He emphasized that the project was originally designed to supply water to 7.5 lakh acres of farmland and cater to both irrigation and drinking water needs. He warned that this decision would severely impact Rayalaseema and other regions dependent on Polavaram water.
Criticism on English Medium Rollback in AP Schools
Mithun Reddy also criticized the gradual removal of English medium education in Andhra Pradesh government schools. He stated that English proficiency is essential for securing jobs in multinational corporations and overseas opportunities. He demanded that both English and Telugu mediums be continued to ensure better educational and employment prospects for students.
Margadarsi Scam Allegations
The MP also raised serious allegations against the Margadarsi scam, stating that the company violated RBI norms and was involved in a ₹2,600 crore financial fraud. He accused Margadarsi of misusing depositors’ money by diverting funds to other businesses and renewing deposits instead of repaying customers. He demanded a thorough investigation and urged PM Modi to intervene in the matter.
Opposition to Vizag Steel Plant Privatization
Mithun Reddy strongly opposed the privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, urging the government to reconsider its decision. He also suggested that the Jindal Group be involved in discussions regarding the Kadapa Steel Plant.
Call for Strict Action Against Drug Abuse
Expressing concern over the rising drug addiction among students, Mithun Reddy urged the central government to take stringent measures to curb drug abuse and ensure a safer environment for youth.
